Thinking of furthering your education after your O Levels or NITEC? NTU and NUS aren’t your only options. There are plenty of other options from Private Education Institutions. Many people seem fearful of going to a private school, often thinking that the quality of the education is sub par, and extremely expensive.
Here are some of the common myths:
The quality of education from private schools are not as good
Not all private schools are bad. Many Private Education Institutions bring in programmes from the top universities, offering quality courses from around the world, in order to provide the best education they can for their students. For instance, International Sports Academy is working with the world renowned Edith Cowan University, and is offering its Bachelor of Science (Exercise and Sport Science) that is ranked 19th in the world!
Many also offer programmes that would qualify their graduates to enter some of the top ranked institutions.
Qualifications from private schools are not as recognized
Private schools usually offer qualifications from some of the top universities in the world. For example, the International Sports Academy offers a degree from Edith Cowan University in Sports and Exercise Science, ranked 19th in the world. This is significantly higher than all other equivalent programmes offered in other institutions, both public and private, in Singapore. This shows that private schools can in fact provide better education than some public schools.
Private schools have significantly higher fees
This is not necessarily the case. A polytechnic education would take up 3 years of your time, and cost about $8,000, while a degree in Sports and Exercise Science in a public education institution would take up another 3 years of your time, and costing you approximately another $32,000. In total, you will have to take 6 years, and spend a total of up to $40,000.
In comparison, you can complete a diploma and degree programme, that are recognised world wide, in approximately 2 years. Cost wise, you will only have to spend approximately $47,000. Comparatively, while you may incur slightly higher fees, you would save 4 to 5 years of your precious time, allowing you to start working earlier, accumulate more working experience, and earn more money! Time is money!

Private education is not as bad as it appears to be. With proper research and information, seeking an education in a private institute can actually be much more rewarding than a public one. Want to find out how private education can help you achieve your goals? Come visit us at ISA!
