What is Sports Coaching

​

In sports, a coach is a person involved in the direction, instruction, and training of the operations of a sports team or individual sportspeople.  Coaches assist athletes in developing themselves to their full potential through analysis of performance, teaching relevant skills, and providing encouragement. Coaches are responsible for the creation of the right conditions for athletes to learn, excel, and stay motivated to perform their best. Job roles include youth development coach, community coach, high performance coach, etc.


Skills and knowledge of an effective coach:

  • Able to communicate effectively with athletes;

  • Able to design effective training programmes;

  • Able to assist athletes to enhance and develop skills; and

  • Able to assess and monitor athletes to predict performance.

What is a Sports Trainer

 

A sports trainer is a certified and licensed health care professional who practices in the field of sports medicine.  A trained sports trainer will be equipped and taught injury management techniques, and the likely functions for someone with this qualification include observing the performance of athletes to determine the required level of instruction, and planning, conducting and evaluating individualised and team training programs. Those with this qualification would supervise training and provide in competition assistance to athletes including supporting their psychological preparation and conducting post competition analysis of both performance and strategy.

What are my academic options

At the International Sports Academy, we have partnered with world class institutions such as Australian Sports Academy, and the United States Sports Academy, to design academic programmes that are suitable for learners of all abilities, background and aptitude.

From certificate III and IV programmes, to diploma programmes (and equivalent), there is bound to be a course that is suitable for you.

Certificate Programmes

Certificate courses provide theoretical and practical knowledge and skills for specialised and/or skilled work and/or further learning.  It provides foundational knowledge and skills that would provide working professionals a greater edge in their job roles, as well as a strong foundation for those who wish to pursue further studies to gain more in depth knowledge and academic qualifications.

Diploma Programme

Sports science careers range from roles in sports management and marketing through to personal training, physiotherapy, physiologist and nutritional consultancy. Whether you like the idea of being involved in the training and development of elite athletes, or want to help all kinds of people improve their lives through sports participation, a sports science degree could provide the professional knowledge and training you need.
